Mental health wait times: is it really months to see a counsellor?

I've been feeling a bit anxious about my studies and work-life balance. I know I can self-refer for mental health support, but I've heard the wait times can be crazy. Does anyone have recent experience? I tried the NHS website but the options seem a bit limited or vague. Am I missing something, or is it just really hard to get quick access to proper counseling without going private?

Yeah, it can be months. I tried last year and got a slot in November after calling in July. Private is faster but costs around £100/hour.

Check if your university has on-campus counseling? It's usually faster and free for students. Worth a try before NHS.

I used a private service on the side. It helped, but I had to budget for it. Hope it gets better for you.
